I just discovered a memoir called "A Chain Of Hands", written by Carol Ryrie Brink. I've already ordered it, used. Now at last I'll find out about the REAL people behind the characters in "Caddie Woodlawn", "Magical Melons", "Two Are Better Than One", and "Louly". Of course I already know that Caddie was Carol Ryrie Brink's grandmother. The world of children's literature owes her a debt of thanks for telling stories of her girlhood to her granddaughter.
