This post has been slightly modified I discovered some of my very favorite books when I was twelve years old: "Anne of Green Gables" by L.M. Montgomery (book fair at school) The "Penrod" books by Booth Tarkington {some disturbing racist elements, but is it fair to judge a book published so many years ago by today's sensibilities? If this book were written today, certain passages would have to be rewritten, or removed entirely, and one character's name would probably be changed to Vernon. "The Saturdays", "The Four-Story Mistake" and "Then There Were Five" by Elizabeth Enright "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn" by Betty Smith "Dandelion Wine" by Ray Bradbury "The City Boy" by Herman Wouk. (at the aforementioned book fair)
